DVD: Rare Edgar Bergen, Charlie McCarthy
Television Specials

PRICE: DVD $19.95

Here are two half-hour television specials made by Edgar Bergen for Coca-Cola in 1950 and 1951. The first is a Thanksgiving story with Charlie McCarthy and friends transported back in time 300 years to Salem, MA., where he and Bergen are accused of witchcraft. This show also features Mortimer Snerd and marks the first appearance of Podine Puffington, a full size puppet dancing partner for Bergen.

The second special on this reel takes place in a ghost town in the old West. It is one of the few recorded segments of the Effie Clinker character. This show also features Ray Noble and his orchestra as well as the television premiere of Dorothy Kirsten.

These shows are a real find, and are the first appearance that Bergen made on network television. These shows are trademark Bergen; charming, sophisticated, funny, and in a word, delightful.

These DVDs are made from prints of the long gone Video Yesteryear Co. of Ct. Their imprint appears in the lower left hand corner of the films. We would rate the print quality as very good.

59 minutes, black and white, 1950 & 1951, NTSC, all-region, -R format.

DVD comes in a standard 5 1/4" X 7 1/2" case with professional graphics and label.
